Athena started Art Feeds Action because she wanted to show how food gets wasted and how even small actions can help people who are hungry.
When Athena was ten, she learned from an article that millions of pounds of emergency biscuits for hungry families overseas were thrown away because there was no way to get them delivered anymore because USAID wasn’t there anymore to help, she felt shocked and confused. She couldn’t understand how food could exist while people were still hungry. That story stuck with her.
Athena is an artist, and she decided to respond the way she knows best: through art that raises awareness and helps fight hunger. She realized a gigantic problem is that the ways to move it aren’t connecting it to the people who need it. Her project is all about fixing that hole.
She called it Art Feeds Action. She knew about charities and wanted to start one of her own. Through her art, Athena shows how food gets wasted, what invisible systems make it hard to reach people in need, and how small actions can make a big difference.
